Freshly Baked Challah With a Story
1934 Our bakers opened their first small bake shop in their hometown of Krakow, Poland. When dark days descended with the Nazi invasion, the bakery was thrust into a heroic role. People were starving. Throngs flocked to the bakery hoping to receive some nourishment. Ignoring the great risk to their personal welfare, the bake shop provided these suffering people with fresh bread. Although the family had great difficulty procuring ingredients, they persevered and fed countless individuals. And they did this without receiving any remuneration.
1949 In 1949, the family brought their quality baking to the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Amidst stiff competition, they rose to become a favorite among the teeming population of post-war New York. It was here that they introduced their trademark Black and White Cookie to an enthusiastic reception. This cookie has become New York’s signature cookie, with the family churning out over a hundred million of them to date. Their fresh, delicious and famous cookies of all varieties have become a classic favorite not only in the Big Apple, but nationwide as well. In the 1950's they outgrew the Lower East Side facility and moved to new quarters in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Their expanded facilities allowed the family to expand the product line to include some of the most popular items today.
2020 New York has long been known for its traditional Jewish food and the delicious loaves of fresh challah bread. Our iconic kosher bakery has been following the same traditional recipe since its opening back in 1934, using nothing but eggs, water, flour, yeast and salt. They buy the best, high-quality flour because that makes a big difference in the dough. Nobody is born a great challah baker. When it comes to learning to make challah, practice makes perfect. With over 85 years of baking challah, our bread has been mastered to mouth-watering perfection! There's nothing more delicious than a sweet golden crusted challah, now delivered to your front door every week just in time for Shabbat.
